Chong Charcoal Seafood Char Koay Teow at George Town
Location: 35, Lorong Baru, 10400 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
New Lane Street Foodstalls
The signature plate comprises flat rice noodles stir-fried with prawns, cockles, lap cheong Chinese sausage, bean sprouts, and egg, seasoned with a dark soya sauce and chilli paste combination. The charcoal fire produces a smoky wok hei that gas-cooked versions struggle to replicate. The stall also offers a version with additional crab meat at a higher price point. Typical prices range from RM8 to RM15 depending on the selection of seafood add-ons.
Operating from approximately 5.30pm to 10.30pm, the stall can be contacted at 017-493 3891. Lorong Baru is a short walk from the Komtar area and the Penang Road famous Teochew Chendul stall. Street parking around the hawker strip is limited; the nearest covered car park is at the Komtar Walk complex.

New Lane Hawker store in George Town. Within walking distance from 218 Tropicana. We visited twice and the 2 results were very different. Line can be long but it moves fast. First time, cooked by the uncle. we got it with duck eggs and cockles. Wok hei was good, perfectly char, noodles, eggs and cockles were yummy but on the sweet side. Second time, cooked by the young man. We got duck eggs and clams. Did not realize clams were from a frozen bag. I didn’t realize until after I placed the order. Clams didn’t taste good, noodles on the greasy and soggy side and broken into pieces, and too sweet. Probably too much sauce or something. Overall still good but I think it’s better to ask for less oil and less sauce.
